The Burning Cloud

In front of us we have a fog screen, a barrier of vaporized water crossed by lightrays, that reproduces the horrifying burning cloud that destroyed Ercolano.
Passing through this barrier, we will start our journey to the time just before August 24th of 79BC.
The devastating eruption of 79AD began around noon on August 24th, creating a giant cloud of ash, pumice, solid chunks and gases. After few hours it seemed to stop but with the first light of August 25th the violence started again creating a new horrifying eruptive cloud.
The great quantity of vapor released in the atmosphere caused heavy rain that transformed the huge piles of ash that had been deposited along the sides of the volcano into devastating cascades of mud.
This collapse of the eruptive column created burning clouds, composed of gases and solid material with very high temperatures, which reached the sea in less than ten minutes.
