Hercules introduces himself

Hey, you! Yes, I am talking to you over there, looking around and seeming lost! You can’t fool me! You are travellers, aren’t you? Do you want to snoop around the homes of the people of Herculaneum…?
I don’t think so, my friends! You are talking to the Protector of this city. I founded it, a long time ago, and gave it my name: Herculàneum, Herculaneum. I was looking for a quiet corner to catch my breath before taking on another of my legendary exploits… and there is no better place to relax than here. The rich Romans knew it well when they built spectacular villas on this stretch of coastline!
But no, wait, I forgot the script again. What was it? Ah, yes: first of all, I must introduce myself. I am Hercules, the strongest hero ever. The one of the twelve labours, you have heard of me?
And don’t you dare touch my Herculaneum! Two thousand years ago I had to put up with Vesuvius burying the city under an avalanche of ash and boiling stones. Then came the bourbons, who churned it up like a sieve, digging tunnels everywhere to recover the ancient statues. Now we get you lot, with your modern mania to see and know everything!
All right, maybe we got off on the wrong foot. Foreigners have always been well received here. It’s a little gem, my Herculaneum: small but enchanting, nicely placed between two rivers, with a view of the sea… they don’t build cities like this anymore! All right, come on, come. I’ll take you to visit it. But just beware that I am watching you!
